The Case for Political Independentism

LiveScience.com reports (via MSNBC) that researchers are about to publish the results of a study of "staunch party members" (both Democrat and Republican) conducted during the 2004 elections, that leads scientists to believe that hard core partisans are "adept at making decisions without letting the facts get in the way."

Among other tasks, the subjects of the study were asked to consider statements commonly viewed as "threatening" to their preferred candidate/party. Their brain activity was then monitored. The result "...points to a total lack of reason in political decision-making."

Yikes! Not really surprising, I guess, but scary nonetheless.

The study results will be published this week at the Annual Conference of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
